Windows VPS & RDP

1. Reinstall as Windows

Control panel → your VPS → Reinstall → pick Windows Server 2022/2025. Wait for it to finish; the admin password is in the panel.

2. Connect

From Windows: open Remote Desktop Connection (mstsc).

Computer: <your-server-ip>
User:     Administrator

Accept the certificate warning — Windows RDP uses a self-signed cert by default.

From macOS/Linux: use Microsoft Remote Desktop or Remmina.

If RDP does not respond, open port 3389/tcp in the panel firewall.

3. First things to do

1. Change the Administrator password (Windows will prompt).
2. Enable Windows Update and install patches.
3. Set the correct time zone.
4. Install RDPGuard / fail2ban-style protection — RDP gets brute-forced constantly.

4. Harden RDP

• Restrict 3389 to your IP in the firewall.
• Or move RDP behind a VPN / WireGuard.
• Never leave the default Administrator password active.
