SRV records
Why SRV?
Without SRV, players must type play.example.com:25577. With an SRV record, they type just play.example.com and the client finds the port automatically.
Add it
| Type | Name | Priority | Weight | Port | Target |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
SRV | _minecraft._tcp.play | 0 | 5 | 25577 | play.example.com |
You also need the target to resolve, so add:
| Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
A | play | node IP |
Cloudflare
Cloudflare supports SRV records. Enter:
- Service:
_minecraft - Protocol:
_TCP - Name:
play - Priority / Weight / Port:
0 / 5 / 25577 - Target:
play.example.com
Cloudflare creates SRV records as DNS-only automatically — you cannot proxy them.
Other protocols
| Use | Name |
|---|---|
| Minecraft | _minecraft._tcp |
| Mail IMAP | _imaps._tcp |
| Mail submission | _submission._tcp |
| Autodiscover | _autodiscover._tcp |
INFO
After changing an SRV record, the client may cache the old one. Restart Minecraft or wait a few minutes.
